이원영교수 동포들과 NY-DC 3주간 대장정
이원영 수원대 전 교수와 미주한인들이 일본의 핵폐수 방류를 규탄하고 중단을 요구하는 ‘핵폐수투기STOP세계시민행진’(GLOMA)을 성공리에 마쳤다.
이들은 지난 3월 19일 뉴욕 유엔본부를 출발, 4월 8일 워싱턴 백악관까지 416 km(약 250마일)를 도보행진하며 일본의 만행을 전 세계에 고발했다.
일본 핵폐수 방류 중단을 외치며 전 세계를 상대로 활발한 활동을 전개하고 있는 이원영 교수는 지난 3주간 도보행진을 선도하며 미국과 재미한인들에게 일본정부의 비양심적인 태도와 핵폐수의 그 위험성을 알리기 위해서 미국을 방문, 뉴욕~워싱턴 도보행진을 선도했다.
세계시민행진에 적극 참여한 뉴욕동포 박바우씨는 “3주에 걸쳐 뉴욕 유엔본부에서~워싱턴 백악관까지 250마일의 도보행진을 미주동포들과 함께 마친 이원영교수님의 성공적인 도보행진을 축하드린다”고 말했다.
이원영 교수와 신대식목사 최상석신부 박미셀씨 박성희씨 등 워싱턴과 뉴욕에서 온 동포들은 마지막 날 백악관 앞에서 한영 발언문을 낭독하는 등 시위 퍼포먼스를 벌이며 행진의 대미(大尾)를 장식했다.
이원영 교수는 “나쁜 짓을 보고도 나쁘다고 말하지 않을 때 인류의 위기가 있다. 왜 바이든정부는 나쁜 짓을 비호했는가. 이제 트럼프정부는 바로잡아야 한다. 맨하탄유엔본부앞을 떠나 백악관까지 250마일을 걸어오는 동안 많은 미국시민들의 지지가 이어졌다. 일본의 핵폐수투기를 반드시 중지시킬 것을 요구한다”고 목소리를 높였다.

이제 요구합니다. 반드시 중지시킬 것을 요구합니다.
지난 2024년 여름에 채택된 세계시민선언서의 다섯가지 사항을 확인하면서 대행진의 마무리를 하고자 합니다.
1. 인류와 지구생태계를 의도적으로 위험에 빠트리는 일본 정부는 핵오염수 투기를 당장 중단하고 지구촌의 모든 생명에게 사죄하라.
2. 이를 두둔하는 미국정부 그리고 IAEA는 지지를 철회하고 안전한 대책을 강구하라.
3. 유엔과 국제사회는 이를 저지하지 못한 직무유기를 반성하라.
4. 세계시민이여, 이런 오류를 방관하면 우리 스스로 후손에게 죄를 짓는 것임을 명심하고, 범죄를 고의로 저지르는 국가나 세력을 적극적으로 응징하자.
5. 세계시민이여, 우리는 지구촌 모든 생명의 존엄성을 지킬 책임이 있음을 깨닫고 올바른 이정표를 세워 나가자.

Ending the Global Citizens' March to Stop Nuclear Waste Dumping (GLOMA)
When we see bad things and do not say they are bad, there is a crisis for humanity.
New York and Massachusetts have proven that the Japanese government is bad.
Why did the Biden administration protect bad things?
Now the Trump administration must correct itself.
We left the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan on March 19 and walked 250 miles to the White House. We walked with the support of many American citizens.
Now we demand. We demand that it be stopped.
We would like to conclude the march by confirming the five points of the Global Citizens' Declaration adopted in the summer of 2024.
1. The Japanese government, which has intentionally put humanity and the Earth's ecosystem at great risk, must immediately stop dumping nuclear contaminated water and apologize to all living things on Earth.
2. The U.S. government and the IAEA, which support Japan's ocean dumping of nuclear contaminated water, should immediately withdraw their support and seek safe measures for all living things on Earth.
3. The UN and the International Community must acknowledge and reflect on dereliction of their duty to stop Japan from dumping nuclear contaminated water into the ocean.
4. Global citizens, keep in mind that if we turn a blind eye to these errors, we are committing a crime to our descendants, and let us actively punish any country or power that intentionally commits such crimes.
5. Global citizens, let us be aware of our responsibility to protect the dignity of all life in the global village, and set the right guideposts.
